Description

The local church is not a business. However, local churches do business every day—and should do so in a “business-like” manner. Finances, government regulations, the challenges of leading a team— all of these responsibilities, in addition to the “spiritual” side of ministry, weigh heavily on pastors as God’s appointed overseers.

Your college and/or seminary training probably equipped you well for the spiritual tasks in ministry. Many confess that they received very little instruction in the business side of local church leadership. In 2006, we established the Summit Christian Leadership Center to fill that training gap.

The training in these seminars is practical and local-church friendly. Through these seminars you can gain the critical skills for sound, visionary, strategic leadership which you may not have had the opportunity to learn before.

Please join us and bring a friend—we think you’ll find the training most helpful for you and the congregation you lead.

The SCLC is an adjunct ministry of Calvary Baptist Theological Seminary. In addition to seminars, we provide individual consulting upon request and availability.

We’ll see you at the seminar!

Day 1 Strategic Planning & Ministry

When Nehemiah went to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem, he didn’t simply grab a brick and start building. Rather, he took the time to establish a plan, knowing that God honors order and organization (Proverbs 16:9).

Nehemiah took his time. He prayed. He established his mission. He assessed current conditions. He planned. He counted the costs. He delegated. He anticipated problems. In the end, with God’s leading, he succeeded.

Ministry requires great faith, but faith is not an excuse for disorder, nor is it a substitute for careful planning. In this workshop you will learn basic principles for making planning simple, while producing plans for your ministry that are clear, focused, and easily executed.

Day 2 Church and Clergy Administration & Tax

Problems with tax and finance in ministry are as old as the Bible. Even Nehemiah had tax problems, as his plans were hindered by grievances that King Artaxerxes was exacting too many taxes. (Neh. 5: 4-6)

In today’s environment, regulatory compliance in ministry has become increasingly complex. Some consultants would capitalize on this complexity by raising fear in ministry leaders that they could unwittingly face penalties or prosecution, putting themselves and their ministries
at risk.

This workshop attempts to alleviate fears regarding the daunting task of administration and compliance with IRS and other regulatory authorities. We offer a balanced approach to these issues, based on a timeless principle – when all else fails, read the instructions and seek counsel (Prov. 15:22). A comprehensive syllabus, with instructions, is included for all participants.
