| Waiving a course |
When a course is waived, the student is not required to take the equivalent Calvary course but is required to replace it with a Calvary course; these substitute courses must ordinarily be taken within the same discipline as the waived course, but courses from other disciplines may be considered at the discretion of the dean. A course may be waived, if a course at another graduate school would normally qualify for transfer credit (see Transfer Credit). Students wishing to have courses waived should fill out an Application to Waive a Course. While normally a CBTS course may not be waived unless the previous course was taken at the graduate level, there are two exceptions. Elementary Hebrew and Hebrew SyntaxStudents who wish to have their Elementary Hebrew or Hebrew Syntax requirements waived must take standard proficiency exams administered by the chair of the department of Old Testament. As with all waived courses, Elementary Hebrew or Hebrew Syntax must be replaced by courses from within the same discipline. Elementary Greek and Greek SyntaxStudents who have successfully completed Elementary Greek on the undergraduate level need not take Elementary Greek. For students wishing to be exempted from Greek Syntax, the chair of the department of New Testament will administer a written competency exam to determine whether their Greek ability justifies the waiving of Greek Syntax. If waived, Greek Syntax is replaced by a Greek exegetical book study, unless otherwise approved by the chair of the department of New Testament. Unlike other waived courses, Elementary Greek is replaced by general electives. |
