“Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.” (Mark 1:17)
They knew that fishing was not a life for the weak. They knew all about working yourself into exhaustion, yet coming away with nothing in the nets. They knew about being at the mercy of the elements in a sudden storm on Galilee. But they also remembered those magical moments when all the exhausting toil resulted in payback - a payback that put food on their tables and renewed motivation in their hearts. Now, this offer of a life “fishing for men” most certainly captured their imaginations. Jesus presented them the possibility of seeing their hard work pay off in eternally tangible results. The longing to have their lives matter in the epic story of redemption was just too strong to resist. They hit the beach and walked away from those nets, toward the adventure of a life following the Master.
Every day, these exceptional students have their passion fueled by a faculty and staff who share the same longing. We do have excellent academics, and they’re getting better all the time - that’s a fact. But all of our academic programs are channeled into one ultimate hope and prayer - we want to produce servant-leaders whose sincere love for the Lord and for people will lead them to embark on a fishing adventure which will last the remainder of their earthly lives. The times have changed. The task has not. Calvary Baptist Theological Seminary is more committed than ever, and better equipped than ever, to produce servant-leaders who make an impact with the gospel. As the new president of Calvary, my heart is filling with bright hopes and dreams about the future. I hope you’ll find our website helpful to learn more about us. Just maybe . . . you’ll find in Calvary the place to get you ready for the next step in your great adventure of faith.

Simon and Andrew could not possibly have understood the full meaning of these words of invitation from Jesus. But as seasoned fishermen, surely the metaphor was not entirely mysterious to them.
Every day, the classrooms at Calvary Baptist Theological Seminary fill with men and women whose imaginations have been captured by that same call. Many of them have walked away from the familiar nets of career and home to be caught up in the great adventure of following Jesus. Each one harbors in his or her heart a profound longing to make a difference in their generation through the life-changing power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
